Blog Post #35 - Parallel Editing Use

Parallel editing is the cutting of different scenes of action that are occurring in the same time frame during a film. This editing tactic injects a feel of urgency and juxtaposition. To incorporate this into the film, I plan to use parallel editing to show different scenes of both Charlotte and Grace getting ready.

The main reason I wanted to include these scenes was to introduce the characters more and give more context as to who they are. This development helps in telling the audience who the characters are which is typically a directors goal in the opening part of a movie. For example, I made sure to include Grace telling Charlotte about how she thinks no one was around to show her as the "skeptic" character.

The parallel editing will also be used as a form of showing stereotypes. By leaning into the urgency factor of this type of editing, it can show ageism stereotypes. The stereotype shown would be teenage girls spend too much time working on and stressing over their appearances.

To create this, I will utilize a series of different shots and angles in order to make a full cohesive display. These shots will mostly be close ups of the items they are using and their application. For example, there will be a shot of a hair straightener and then the next shot would be it passing over the hair.
