Blog Post # 18 - How Sound Impacts a Scenes Theme

       In the production of films, filmmakers work out every small detail in every scene to trigger feelings within audiences and convey their underlying messages exactly as they want them. A major component they use for in their process of creation is sound. This is because the sound of a scene can enhance a narratives impact, create atmosphere and evoke significant emotions. 

       The main types of sounds that impact a scenes theme are score and sound effects. These two elements of sound, especially in combination with one another, work together to develop the atmosphere of a film and the context of a scene. For example, a murder scene should be filmed along with a more intense and suspicious score instead of something upbeat and positive. The music can change the entire connotation of the scene depending on what is used. 

       Sound effects are vital to the creation of almost any film because they enhance realism and make the experience more immersive for audiences. Some examples of side effects could be anything from the sound of a car starting to the audio of a huge explosion. In horror and thriller films, side effects are necessary to developing the film because they contribute to the overall terror of the film and make it much more realistic.

       To conclude, sound is an important element in the development of productions due to its way of affecting a scenes theme and context. Since my film project is in the horror/thriller genre, I will have to ensure I utilize the proper scores and sounds to build up my film in plot development and create an entertaining experience for viewers. Using the proper sounds for this project will keep viewers engaged, encourage interaction, and ultimately elevate the opening sequence.
