Blog Post #16 - Initial Storyboard Ideas

Storyboards are used extremely often in the film-making process in order to assist in pre-visualize the look and order of a film sequence. It helps outline key details like camera angles, transitions, and the length of scenes. By creating my storyboard for this project, it will save a lot of time and confusion on the production of the scenes and how they are intended to look.

In this piece of the story board, the opening scene is displayed. The scene shows an alarm going off and then Charlotte from above as she awakens. My decisions when creating this storyboard are not final like the costumes or colors of props, they are just to provide a basic concept of the scenes before planning is complete. By creating this, I can now determine how I want my film to be designed and what details need further planning.

The next portion of my story board shows the makeup scenes. In the drawings, I included different options and examples of things I could film like a close-up of my character putting on mascara or lip gloss. These examples give me an idea of the type of shots I want to film for this and what angles or shots I think will work best for different things. Putting my ideas on to something visual has vasty assisted in new ideas and making big decisions to find the best way to create the opening sequence.
Lastly, this scene is of Charlotte walking outside to meet Grace for school. The drawing of this helped me determine the distances I need to film at in order to get the proper angles and shots I am looking for. By incorporating the transition in the scene, I can see how the scenes will move into each other and affect one another. Overall, the use of a story board has deeply impact how I'm going to proceed in planning my film and its production.
