Blog Post #13 - Target Audiences

For my film project, my target audience pertains more to teenagers and young adults. This is because my narrative involves teenagers fighting a threat and I intend for these teenagers to seem relatable in order for audiences to develop connections and resonate with them. Having the intention and vision of who I want to use this film to reach allows me to make informed decisions about every part of my film to make the deepest impact possible on the intended audience.

To help reach this audience, my characters will be based off of both typical stereotypes and counter stereotypes to create feelings and strong opinions throughout the narrative as the characters develop. This can also assist in developing the theme of the film efficiently with simplified messaging because the emotional connection is already established. By diversifying stereotypes, more groups of individuals can be reached which will broaden audiences and provide more interaction coming directly from viewers.

The easiest and most efficient way to reach an audience is understanding them and what typically influences them. Teenagers and young adults specifically, are modernly influenced by usually social media and their peers. Through targeted advertising on social media platforms using entertaining content like teasers and trailer, the audience can be reached significantly faster and on an improved level.

To understand an audience and properly influence them, the key aspects, demographics, psychographics, buying behaviors, pain points, motivations and interest, help break down the elements that have the ability to affect them. In my project, I want to focus on affecting and utilizing their pain points and interest. Through the death of Charlotte's close friends, I can impact pain points because of the common fear of losing friends or of unknown stalkers constantly watching. The target audiences interests will be taken into consideration while choosing props and location to provide something they can further relate to and create opinions their own opinions about.
