Outdoor scenes can be significantly more difficult than filming outdoor scenes because of all the unpredictable elements. These may include weather, cars, wind, and surrounding people. These obstacles had to be overcome in various scenes since many of the shots in my project were filmed outdoors.
The elements also made choosing filming days very difficult. Finding days with everyone available was already hard but incorporating unpredictable weather changes with the schedule created made finding time nearly impossible. But eventually, there was a day with no rain, minimal wind, and decent temperatures to prevent the actors from sweating or shivering during the scenes.
This first scene was filmed in windy weather which made it difficult to get just ambient noises so I decided to use voice isolation. Voice isolation is used to drown out the unwanted background noise and prioritize the sound of the dialogue with the intended noises. The tactic was very helpful in putting together my scenes and editing them how I needed them to be.
Next, the filming of this scene where Charlotte is walking outside to the car was difficult to film. With the passing of cars and people, many retakes had to occur especially with the noises coming from all around. Ultimately, I decided to just film the scene 3 times, edit out the sounds, and chose the best one to use to in order to save time and get more filming done. Another difficult part was deciding where to place my actor to get a good amount of screen time for the shot so what I did was have her start from the top of the driveway so that it could be cut while she is walking to create a more seamless shot.
