Since filming is a long process even for a short amount of scenes and has multiple settings, the shooting of the scenes had to occur over 2 days. For the second day, I filmed the beginning and ending of the project which include the scenes of Charlotte waking up and getting ready, Grace picking her up, and Grace being murdered by the stalker. These scenes had to be done as well as possible since they contain the major plot points and most cinematography for the entire project.
The scene of Charlotte waking up had to be redone multiple times in order to get the proper intended effect with the right amount of focus and the right angle. To film this, I had to stand on chairs in order to film from above and get the mid shot of her stomach and above. After the first few takes, the scene did not feel right so I changed a few things around. Initially, the shot was meant to be just a close up of her face but I decided to move further away to create a transition between scenes. The transition occurs when the blanket sweeps the camera which creates an opportunity to layer scenes together.
Another change I incorporated was my actor looking into the camera as she moves the blanket. Looking away from the camera seemed too unnatural but with her looking at it and breaking the fourth wall, the scene can convey a feeling of intimacy and a desire for communication with the audience. Overall, this small change creates a subconscious awakening in the audience which forces them to pay attention to details and acknowledge the sub-context behind certain scenes.
This next scene of Charlotte looking back and forth from behind was developmentally necessary to create build into the next scenes where she is confused and feels like she's going insane. In the scene, she feels as though someone is staring at her and watching her so she looks back and forth to check. To film, I chose a mid shot from behind, the helps establish the setting outside of Charlotte's house which orientates the audience while also showing her slightly awkward and uncomfortable body language. This was difficult to film with cars and people passing by but with time and many attempts the shot resulted as wanted.
