As a part of the project, a vital part of its creation is ensuring the opening sequence looks as though it is part of a full film and not a miniature short film. To do this, I have to ensure the scenes all are cohesive with one another and are not all filled with action and more plot information so that it remains only an opening sequence. The most important part of this will be my final shot.
Initially, I wanted to end with a shot of the stalker holding a knife over Grace's back. From here, the scene would go black and the scream would be audible. But, this ending would feel more like a short film because it would show the one murder and not the stalkers true intentions.
My new intentions for the ending of my film is to begin with the stalker standing over her as she receives the messages. Then, the scene would show him raising the knife and a close-up of her throat. Instead of ending on a black screen with the sound of her scream, the last shot would be of the phone in the stalkers hand with a list of names in the notes app while placing a checkmark next to Grace's name.
This change will be significant to my opening sequence without changing too much and forcing me to rethink certain planning aspects to alter the ending. The changes are simply just a few additional shots but will go a long way in bettering the project. Overall, this small alteration will improve my project by keeping it in chronological order with the plot and creating a cliff-hanger for the rest of the film.
