Blog Post #34 - Title Sequence

A title sequence is the opening part of a film where the main title and credits for those who take part in the film are shown. This typically done to some kind of visual and a song which helps in introducing the audience to the overall feel of the film. Basically, it is a way of presenting the crew and atmosphere of the film in a creative way for the audience.

An example of a good title sequence that helped in inspiring mine is the one from "Terrified 2." The red and black theming of it symbolized the horror aspects of the film while also using the scenes of the girl to give some basic context as to who she is and what she is like. I utilized the same colors in my title sequence to intentionally help give more horror context for the audience.

My other inspiration came from the show "The Summer I Turned Pretty." The structure of this title sequence matched my goal for the one I wanted to create. It begins with the title being shown and then the credits being displayed on the bottom corner as the episode continues. This will allow for me to display the title sequence without having to give up too much film time.

Finally, the video above is my draft title sequence I created for my film. By using the specific color scheme of red and black, emotions and perspectives can be influenced before the real horror components of the film are shown. I decided to put the title sequence before the establishing shot of the school because it helps in transitioning between scenes and it also allowed me to have a good place to start adding in the credits without interrupting a major scene that could be distracting. For the audio I used an eery whisper sound I discovered on Youtube that went along perfectly with my theme.
