Blog Post #31 - Filming Update #1

Now that I am finished with the planning aspects of my film project, I was able to begin filming. For my first filming day, I decided to focus on my scenes at the school. This is because everyone is available and able to film there for this week because there aren't any schedule conflicts during school hours but much of my cast has other obligations after school.

The filming of some scenes were very difficult because of people walking in frame during a scene or people talking in the background. So, various scenes had to be retaken multiple times in order to create the best version possible. Another major issue was with my actors laughing mid-scene or messing up lines. With a bit of extra practice we were eventually successful.

I had to reevaluate certain parts of my filming plan as well. Some of my intended camera angles and shots did not work out with my actors and settings so I had to change some things around and reposition certain scenes to ensure the best possible outcome. Changing cinematography choices can also change the meaning and context behind a scene so I had to account for that

Overall, the beginning of the lengthy film process went well but there are many lessons learned for the future. The scenes I filmed are a part of the middle of my opening sequences when Charlotte begins to feel ever more suspicious of her surroundings but Grace is in her head calling her crazy. These scenes are vital to my film because it builds rising action before the stalker makes his first kill in the narrative.
