Blog Post #27 - Score

When it comes to the auditory portion of a film, the choices made are vital to building the overall atmosphere of the scene. A major sound choice is the score. The score of a film is the music added to scenes.

For my film, I intend to utilize two different scores. The first score will be a more girly pop song for the scenes of Charlotte and Grace getting ready for the day in order to represent their femineity and utilize basic teenage girls stereotypes. The second score I plan to use should be more eerie and suspicious since it is being used to create suspicion and anxiety before the murder scene occurs.

The more girly and upbeat song I chose for the first scene with a score is the song "Something That I Want" by Grace Potters. This song was created for the "Tangled" film soundtrack and is an iconic song for many teenage girls currently. The overall beat and energy of the song will go along perfectly with my intention for the scene and parallel editing.

Next, the song I chose for the scenes leading up to murder and the murder scene itself is "The Candy Man" by Sammy Davis Jr. from 1972. This song initially feels more positive and like old, classic music but it eventually becomes more creepy and suspicious as it continues. That change in connotation is exactly how I want the scenes to go, beginning like it is just a normal scene of Grace studying but then the music will begin to noticeably change as the audience realizes what is actually happening.
