Blog Post #24 - Major Obstacles So Far

Creating a film is a lengthy and tedious process. With the hundreds of small steps between researching, planning, filming and editing, there are so many things to go wrong or cause a struggle. Some things thus far in my project that have caused some issues are things like coming up with an initial idea, deciding on settings, and choosing my actors.

To begin, the most prominent issue I have faced doing this project has been formulating my idea. When the project was first assigned, I had various small ideas on my mind that were possibilities but all of the ones I attempted to create ended up not working the way I had intended. I went through a lot of trial and error to attempt to resolving this problem so that eventually, by getting the opinions of others on my ideas and finding inspiration in my favorite films, I was able to develop my final idea for my project.

Another major issue I ran into was deciding on which settings to use. My options for settings based off of my idea were very limited in what I had access to. I had to find places with good lighting or opportunity for good lighting with ways to obtain different camera angles and shots that could assist me in filming. To overcome this problem, I took photos of all my options from different angles and used the process of elimination to determine which ones had the best opportunities and features.

Lastly, another huge problem I have had with this film project so far was choosing my actors. I did not have access to many willing people who would act in it so I had to carefully choose and ask the perfect people that matched my characters physical description and the proper personality for it. It took a few days to make final decision but I had to choose based off of the best options and who would be available for filming. So eventually, I made the decision to use Olivia, Michele, and Aiden as my actors for the opening sequence who in the end were the most beneficial choices.
