Blog Post #23 - Male Character's Clothing

The antagonist in a film is one of the most important characters because they create the conflict that eventually develops into the narratives overall plot. This character also provides those necessary obstacles that challenge and force the protagonist to grow, change, and develop. Antagonist are viewed as the villain in narrative stories so, for my film project, my antagonist is a stalker.

A stalker in modern times usually stalk individuals through unwanted contact, unwanted gifts, approaching them or their loved ones, surveillance, or threats. To be able to do all of these things without having their identity revealed, they usually dress nonchalantly. This means basic clothing, typically black so that they may remain unnoticed.

For my stalkers clothing, it needs to be suspenseful and questionable. So, he will be wearing black pants and a black hoodie. This outfit is very basic and simple but still something that stands out in comparison to the other characters in the film. The color black is significant in this situation because it typically represents mystery, power, evil and death.

Lastly, the antagonist of the film also needs his own specific props. This includes his murder weapon and mask. The type of mask will most likely just be a black ski mask in order to not draw significant attention to his appearance. To conclude, the stalker in my opening sequence is one of the most vital components to its creation which makes his clothing just as important to the sub context of the film.
