Blog Post #2 - Inspirations

To come up with an idea for this film  project, I had to think back and consider media I have consumed, what interests me about them, and why I enjoyed them. I typically tend to stay towards horror-thriller type movies but also with contrasting sweet romantic or found-family comedies that have a warm story. Because of this, my goal was to create a storyline that incorporates the best of both worlds. By putting together the stalker concept of my film and incorporating the important, heartfelt friendships, I feel as though I can create a contrasting atmosphere that can keep the audience on the edge of their seat.

As the horror movie component of inspiration, the films I thought of were "Scream" and "Time Cut." These 2 films are movies where murders chase down people, often teenagers, in attempt to murder them. Specially in "Scream," Ghostface (the killer) stalks his victims and taunts them over the phone which highly inspired the backstory of my film idea where he utilizes Charlotte's instagram to find whose close to her and choose his victims. The main character was also inspired by the typical reoccurring characters in most movies in the franchise who is trying to unmask Ghostface and stop him which is part of my protagonist's main goal that also includes stopping him and saving both herself and the people she loves.

The recently created film "Time Cut," was also a major inspiration to my film through its elements. The movie itself displays countless valuable key horror movie stereotypes and conventions that provided insight on the aesthetic and type of atmosphere I want to create with my project. The representation put on the teenagers today against how teenagers were in the past due to the time traveling as well as a comparison in both how advanced life is and the quality of life in the very different eras. Also, the relationship between the two sisters in this film provided an idea of how I intend for my character's dynamic with her best friend to look in my opening sequence.

Lastly, another huge source of inspiration for my project was the TV show "Alexa & Katie" which is about two teenage best friend's experiences as one of them battles cancer. The connection between all of the main characters became a basis for how I would like for my film to portray Charlotte and her friends in the context of how close they are and how much they care for one another. This would assist in combating the stereotypes of shallow female teenage friendships in today's society through the lack of competition between them while also playing into the messy and how unpredictable young people can be through the settings and choice my characters would make. Overall, through different media that I have viewed, I am able come up with concepts, elements, features, and ideas that will benefit my final project and assist in creation of a script and actor choice.
